This tasty apple cinnamon muesli has lightly toasted oats, coconut, and seeds with cinnamon-spiced apple pieces.
This homemade apple muesli is super easy to throw together. If you’ve got access to plenty of apples, you can dry your own apple chunks to go in the muesli. If not, store-bought dried apples work just as well.
What is the difference between granola and muesli?
Granola and muesli are pretty similar in terms of ingredients but granola tends to be sweeter Granola is always cooked with sweetener to create either baked clusters or a loose baked mixture. Muesli can be cooked or uncooked and doesn’t contain as much sweetness as granola does. In most cases, this makes muesli the healthier option.
Dried apples in muesli
The dried apple pieces bring sweetness and a different texture to the muesli. I dry my own. Dried apple makes a great snack in general!
Chop fresh apples into small slices, about 1 1/2cm wide and 1/2cm thick. Toss them in a little cinnamon for extra flavour. If they are organic apples there is no need to peel them either. Around 5-6 fresh apples are enough for this muesli but it can pay to dry a little extra to use for future snacks.
They can be dried in an oven or a dehydrator at around 60°C/140°F until completely dry. The apples will soften again over time but you need to ensure they are dried out completely so that they will store long-term. This can take around 8 hours depending on the dehydrator or oven used, as well as the size of the apple pieces.
If using store-bought dried apples, these usually come in rings. Chop them up into little 1/2cm pieces for this apple muesli.
Oats, desiccated coconut, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and cinnamon make the base of the muesli. You can use quick rolled oats or old-fashioned rolled oats for this, and change up the seeds for others or substitute with nuts instead.
It’s very versatile!
The seeds are coated in a mixture of honey and vegetable oil (or butter) and tossed together. Then it’s baked for 15 minutes, and tossed occasionally until the muesli is lightly toasted.
You can toast muesli and granola in the air fryer too!
After baking the apples are added in.
This muesli can be made ahead of time and stays fresh for up to a month in an airtight container. It can also be frozen for up to three months.

If apple isn’t your thing, try this dried strawberry and macadamia muesli instead.
- 5-6 apples
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 3 cups rolled oats
- 1 cup dessicated coconut
- 1/2 cup sunflower seeds
- 1/2 cup pumpkin seeds
- 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup coconut oil (or light olive oil or butter)
- 1/3 cup honey
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 cup chopped dried apple pieces*
- Chop the apples into small slices, about 1 ½ cm wide and ½ cm thick. Coat with cinnamon.
- In a dehydrator or oven, dry at 60°C140°F for around 8-10 hours until completely dried.
- Preheat the oven to 150°C/300°F.
- On an oven tray, combine the oats, coconut, seeds, and cinnamon. Toss them together.
- In a saucepan melt together the coconut oil, honey, and salt. Pour this over the oat mixture and toss to coat.
- Bake for around 15 minutes, stirring it every 5 minutes to bake it evenly.
- Remove it from the oven and let it cool before adding the dried apple pieces.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a month. It can also be frozen for up to three months.
*Store bought dried apple rings work well for this muesli if you're not drying your own. Chop the rings into small 1cm pieces.
