A delicious warm cocktail, perfect for those cold evenings. Cinnamon, star anise, cloves and citrus are added to a bottle of red. A swig of brandy too, for good measure.
1orangepeel and juice(strip off the peel with a peeler)
1lemon(peel only)(strip off the peel with a peeler)
2wholestar anise
8wholecloves
1cinnamonstick
1/4cup sugar
1 cupwater
1 bottlered wine
1/4cupbrandy(optional)
Instructions
In a large pot combine the water, sugar, orange peel and juice, lemon peel and spices. Bring to a boil and keep it boiling for about 6-8 minutes until reduced by half.Lower the heat.
Add in the red wine. Bring to a simmer but don't let it boil. Simmer for 10 minutes before adding in the brandy, then simmer for 5 minutes more.
Strain mulled wine into a serving jug or serve straight from the pot and use a ladle. Pour into glasses and add some sliced orange for garnish.
